Fell Ride

This is a ride out which takes you over Bigland Fells and through some stunning Lake District countryside.

The route starts by climbing out of Bigland Estate, through the forest plantations and onto the fells on the side of Cartmel Valley. From here the ride loops through the fields and countryside and returns back to Bigland.

The terrain is very varied and this ride is a good introduction to Hacking and Trail Riding. There are several opportunities to canter in the open fields which means this ride is not suitable for beginners.

Half Day Ride

For the more advanced and adventurous riders. This is a longer Fell Ride which goes over more challenging terrain and provides more opportunities to canter, where the ground is suitable.

The route continues down into Cartmel, passing through the famous Cartmel Race Course and back up through the outskirts of the Holker Estate to the other side of the valley once again looping back to Bigand.

The standard fell ride lasts for approximately 3 hours. Riders must be able to canter in balance in an open environment and have had the experience of riding out as this is a faster-paced ride.

We have some alternative routes for those that have done the Cartmel ride before which goes to the East of Lake Windermere into the forest tracks and returns over Canny Hill, a fabulous bridleway over common land.

Day Ride

The Full Day Rides start to explore the true nature of the Lake District and traverse the edges of the local hills and valleys giving spectacular views! There are also many canters and open spaces to truly experience your horse’s abilities.

Hampsfell Day Ride

We start off the ride heading through the local forest plantations over the fells and down into Cartmel valley. We then climb up the other side of the valley over Hampsfell which gives fantastic opportunities to canter as well as stunning views of Morecambe Bay. There is then a lunch stop at a friendly local cafe before heading back over Canny Hill, a bridleway that runs over the common and back to the Riding Centre.   Riders must be able to canter in balance in an open environment and have had plenty of experience riding out.  This is a very exciting and challenging ride making memories you will never forget.
